St Martha and St Mary’s Anglican Church Leuven lives Christ’s mission to spiritually enrich the lives of every person in our wider university and city community. M&Ms is an inclusive Anglican parish, with broad ecumenical participation, known for rich liturgy, engaging preaching, and friendly community. We aim to explore Christ's mission in pastoral care, spiritual formation, openness to questioning, vocational training, and warm hospitality. We pray that practical outreach will lead to increased visibility as a generous university and city parish, as we grow in the life and service of God the Holy Trinity.
It is important to note that not all of our members are Anglicans in their own tradition; rather we are a group of people who feel comfortable in the universal and ecumenical character of the Anglican Communion.

What We Believe
The Christian Community
As a Christian Community, M&Ms affirms the ecumenical creeds, together with Christians of all times and places, and we stress the importance of the teachings of the Church Fathers. We also affirm that the Bible - the Old and New Testaments - "contains all things necessary for salvation" and is therefore the standard for our faith. We seek to express this faith in worship, fellowship, and neighbourly love. Furthermore, our sources of authority are formed by "the three-legged stool" of scripture, tradition and reason. We enjoy differing traditions in our worship and welcome the input of attendees from a variety of backgrounds. |
The Anglican Communion
As an international community, M&Ms feels a strong sense of belonging to the worldwide Anglican Communion with its over 70 million adherents in 165 countries. As Anglican, M&Ms sees the Church of England as our ‘Mother Church’, which considers itself to be both Catholic and Reformed. We are Catholic, because our church is both universal and apostolic. The term ‘apostolic’ implies that the teachings and bishops of the Church of England go back straight to the very apostles of Christ himself. We are Reformed, because the Church of England has been influenced by the Protestant Reformation; we believe that faith in our Lord and Saviour Jesus is sufficient for salvation. In the Anglican spirit, we hold on to the two sacraments ordained by Christ: Baptism and Eucharist. |
"Forasmuch as the Church of Christ has for a long time past been distressed by separations and schisms among Christian men, so that the unity for which our Lord prayed is impaired and the witness to his gospel is grievously hindered, it is the duty of clergy and people to do their utmost not only to avoid occasions of strife but also to seek in penitence and brotherly charity to heal such divisions."
