New Chaplain Announcement
Almost a year ago we entered a period of vacancy brought about by the departure of our then chaplain, Catriona Laing. The position was advertised just before Christmas 2023 after a period of active listening and discussion with you, the M&Ms congregation, as we sought to determine the wishes and hopes of our church community. These discussions culminated in the drawing up of the vacancy pack in which we set out our stall hoping to attract the right person to fit the needs of our growing chaplaincy.
The first round of interviews in early 2024 was unsuccessful and, after further discussion, council agreed to re-advertise in the early spring prompting a further round of interviews in May of this year.
I am delighted to say that this round has been a success, and we are now in the fortunate and happy position to be able to announce that the new chaplain to the Anglican chaplaincy of St. Martha & St. Mary's Leuven will be Sarah-Jane King, who has so loyally served our community as curate for the past three years. Sarah-Jane will take up the role of chaplain in the autumn.
With Sarah-Jane we also welcome Rutger, Bram, and Max who have been constant in their support of Sarah-Jane and our chaplaincy throughout her curacy with us. We hold them all in prayer as they embark on this new period in the life of M&M's and we give thanks to God for his shepherding of our community throughout this period of vacancy.
I would like to extend my thanks to my fellow vacancy rep, Karen, for her wisdom and support in this process, my fellow warden, Sarah, to council, and to all in our chaplaincy who have so faithfully supported the work of M&M's during this vacancy.
Below, a statement from our new chaplain, Sarah-Jane, in response to this good news:
I am overjoyed to be appointed as Chaplain of M&M’s and I’m looking forward to taking up this new role in the autumn. It is a privilege to serve this gentle, gracious community. I’m excited for what God will do in and through each of us. Thank you for your hospitality and kindness to Rutger, Bram, Max and me. We are praying for you all and wish you all a wonderful summer!
